Israel Smith: Bio

The stories we tell about public radio should be as good as the stories on public radio.  Israel Smith, DEI's Marketing Advisor to stations and Marketing Communications Manager for DEI's own publications, can help you tell those stories.

Israel is the President of I.S. Marketing in Minneapolis. He is available as an advisor to DEI members on marketing and positioning strategies, On-Air Promotion planning and management, and managing programming change.  Israel can help you quickly sketch an integrated plan for launching a new local program or project, a schedule change, or help plan out a longer term strategy for on-air promotion.

Along with his partner Deb Blakeley, Israel was the lead consultant to NPR’s Audience Building Initiative and part of the CPB/SRG "Grow the Audience" initiative.  Israel is the co-author of an essay on serving Core audiences in the landmark Audience 98 study. He currently represents Radiolab, The Moth Radio Hour, and State of the Re:Union, and manages national fundraising programming for American Public Media. With Craig Oliver, Israel advises a number of stations on program development, scheduling, audience research, and audience building.
